Not without a bit of controversy,
Gage Products of Ferndale is planning a multi-million dollar expansion that includes the construction of additional manufacturing and distribution facilities.
Gage is a leading global supplier of blended solvents and closed-loop recycling technology for the auto industry. The recently-announced $5 million plan would add 10 jobs to the 75 the company already employs at its Ferndale facility.
"We expect to see a significant growth in sales from auto manufacturers
and their suppliers," president Robert Jamrog said in a statement. "The expansion will enable Gage to
meet increased demand from new and existing customers."
At a August 27 Ferndale City Council hearing about the expansion, Gage's request for conditional rezoning was tabled so that the company could address some concerns brought up at the meeting. Some neighborhood residents claim the company has polluted its neighborhood, according to an
Oakland Business Review article.
For its part, Gage points out that it has received numerous awards for environmental achievements, including DaimlerChrysler’s
Environmental Excellence Award and the Society of Automotive Engineers’
Environmental Excellence in Transportation Award. Gage has earned
ISO-14001 certification for environmental
processes.
A company spokesperson, Jen Howell of AutoCom Associates, says that a date for another hearing has not yet been set.
