Real-estate is the U.S. is often glorified as an individual endeavor, with many high-profile developers looking to mold communities into their vision. CORE Partners is finding success by going in the opposite direction.
"It's a client-centric model, not an ego-centric model," says Matt Farrell, co-founder & CEO of
CORE Partners. "We operate in an open, team-based way in an industry that is more individualized."
The full-service commercial real estate firm is enjoying a bit more than its fair share of success with that philosophy. It pumped up its revenue by 25 percent last year by adding about a dozen new clients and nearly 20 new projects. That enabled it to hire 12 people, expanding its staff to 131 employees. The new jobs range from property managers to project managers.
The Bingham Farms-based company is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The firm got its start as a commercial brokerage. Two years ago it merged with Burton-Katzman (a construction firm) and ReAlta (a real-estate development firm based in New York City). The result is a larger firm that offers a comprehensive set of commercial real-estate development and management services.
Bringing all of that together is easier than it sounds. Farrell and his executive team opted to develop a team-oriented culture in the new company. They worked with the
Detroit Chapter of Entrepreneur's Organization to shape that, which led to a new platform focused on creating optimal client service.
"As a team and a group we can achieve a lot more," Farrell says.
