Like it or not, this won't be the first or last time that metromode talks about greening your home and office. Luckily, as people become more and more cognizant of the long-term effects of chemical exposure, alternatives become more and more available to keep your home and body clean without chemicals.
Old-fashioned methods that went out of vogue in the 1980's -- like vinegar and newspaper for window-cleaning -- are finding new life (I always knew my Grandma was a smartie!).
On October 16, local environmental education and advocacy group
LocalMotion is hosting a lecture by Annie Berthold Bond, recently named one of the top 20 environmental leaders and author of
Body and Soul. Bond's talk, entitled
Ten Simple Ways to Have a Healthy, Green Home, will conclude with questions and answers and an opportunity for book-signing.
When you walk out, hopefully you will be inspired and informed about how to make simple changes to the products housed in your cupboards.
Bond has 20 years of experience in the environmental realm. She has authored four books, including
The Green Kitchen Handbook -- which has a foreward by someone you might have heard of, Meryl Streep. She is also the founding editor of
The Green Guide, an
Utne Reader Alternative Press award recipient for general excellence in newsletters.
LocalMotion was started in Grosse Pointe in 1999 to raise public awareness about toxins found in everyday living and offer alternatives to improve health and the quality of life.
The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the Fries Auditorium of the
Grosse Pointe War Memorial. To reserve a seat, call 313-881-2263.
