The city is working to acquire the old Wyandotte theater in downtown.
The City Council and DDA approved spending $802,600 to purchase the theater. The deal is pending approval from the theater's current owner. The city is deciding which developer will head up the project and what will happen to the theater.
All options on future use, such as turning it into a six-screen theater or bulldozing it, are still on the table.
The Art Deco-style theater has been closed for 17 years and is completely gutted. It was the first multiple-screen theater in Michigan when it opened in 1936.
