Boutique hotel planned for downtown Grosse Pointe

A boutique hotel with the highest environmental credentials is being proposed for downtown Grosse Pointe.

The plan calls for building a City Flats Hotel (of Holland, Mich. fame) called The Village Inn of Grosse Pointe. The 50-room hotel would be built on what is now a city-owned parking lot on Notre Dame Street next to the parking structure.

The initial concept envisions a 5-story structure with rooftop restaurant. The building would apply for platinum LEED certification (the greenest of the green) from the U.S. Green Buildings Council. The developer would pay the city $1.8 million to building on the surface parking lot.

City officials and the developer are conducting due diligence on the proposal this summer. Public input and city approval, among many other things, are still needed before shovel can be put to earth. Construction is not set to begin until well into next year.
