Rosie O'Grady's opens new home in downtown Ferndale

The people behind the new Rosie O'Grady's Irish Pub are finishing up one project this week and starting another.

The downtown Ferndale institution is set to open up its new home this weekend at 279 W 9 Mile Road in the old Eyeglass Factory storefront. The restaurant/bar's owners are also transforming the old location on Troy Street into
Diablo's Texmex Cantina, a Mexican restaurant.

Rosie O'Grady's has been around downtown Ferndale for 20 years and has consistently grown in popularity. So much so that new location is triple the size of the original, to accommodate the waterhole's evolution.

The new $3 million location will feature a 4,500-square-foot patio with a six-figure landscaping job that includes space for a patio bar and fire pits. The new space also has banquet facilities, a coal-fired pizza oven and a theater-style kitchen for patrons' viewing pleasure. The impressive renovation promises to become one of downtown's marquee nightspots.

"It's all state of the art everything," says Beth Hussey, general manager for Rosie O'Grady's. "You really have to see it to believe it."

The old home at 175 Troy St. is also getting a little renovation love. Hussey expects the transformation from Rosie O'Grady's to Diablos will take about 3-6 months.
