Everyone is well aware that there is no mall in downtown Detroit.
But
there is a good alternative. As the number and variety of retailers in
the Renaissance Center continues to grow, it presents more and more of
a similar shopping opportunity. Without going too far as to suggest it
can compete with Somerset, it is possible to find a variety of gifts at
the Ren Cen for people with many different tastes.
Ideas: a tee-shirt from the new
Pure Detroit organic cotton line, a tie from
Pangborn Design, gift certificates to any of the restaurants, particularly
Andiamo's,
Coach Insignia and
Seldom Blues,
Godiva chocolates, jewelery, books, even a bottle of wine.
To sweeten the pot for shoppers, the Ren Cen is offering an abundance of mall-like services for its customers.
At
Level 1 of Tower 200, receive complimentary gift wrapping and a free
gift with a receipt from a Ren Cen store or restaurant. Hours are 10
a.m to 6 p.m. Mon. through Fri., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. Sun.
Santa will be in the Wintergarden for free pictures
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon. through Sat. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sun.
There will be storytelling, face-painting, cookie decorating and other
children's activities on Friday through Sunday right up until Christmas.
For
those not inclined to shop, stop by the Wintergarden at lunchtime to
hear some of the area's top high school choirs. The concerts are
scheduled for noon on Dec. 11, 12, 13, 18 and 20.
