Lighthouse Community Development is making it easier for new house-buyers to make Ferndale their home this fall.
The non-profit organization along with Credit Union ONE are holding two first-time-homebuyer seminars on Saturday and again on Oct 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Credit Union ONE offices at 400 E. 9 Mile Road in downtown Ferndale.
The seminars will cover a range of issues new homebuyers face, such as mortgage financing, qualifying for a loan, making sense of credit scores, the true cost of home ownership and the state of the current real-estate market.
Lighthouse has been very active in helping get first-time homebuyers into houses, concentrating its efforts in Pontiac and Ferndale. In particular, the organization has enjoyed quite a bit of success in Pontiac over the last few years, helping build 64 single-family homes and renovating another 25 for first-time buyers.
Earlier this year Lighthouse joined forces with the city of Ferndale and Paramount Bank to form the Porch Light Partnership. That coalition concentrates on rehabbing dilapidated homes in strong neighborhoods on Ferndale's east side to head off blight and raise property values. The homes are sold to new homebuyers, the first of which are being brought online this fall.
