Grosse Pointe
Park's new condo project, The
Brownstones at the Park, will break ground in February.Bloomfield Hills-based Robertson Brothers
plans to build 22 brownstone condos along Lake Pointe Drive about one block north
of Jefferson Avenue.
The infill development will raze seven early 20th Century duplexes
that are either rentals or owner-occupied rentals. The project is part of Grosse Pointe
Park's effort to create
more new housing and owner-occupied homes.
The development is about one block away
from city hall, the police station and library. It's also a 15-minute drive
from downtown Detroit.
The condos will start in the $170,000s, and so far three of them have been
reserved.
"If you want to be close to downtown
but have better taxes, better schools and all of the amenities of Grosse Pointe
Park, this is a
steal," says Jim Clarke, a spokesman for Robertson Brothers.
Each brownstone will have two bedrooms and
2 1/2 bathrooms in 1,600 square feet. Either a two-car garage or a large one-car
garage comes with each unit. There will also be more on-street or on-site
parking spots, with 55 spaces total.
The developer expects to have the old
buildings on the one-acre site razed by this spring and the first six condos
finished within four months after that. The rest of the brownstones will be
built as they are sold.
