Ferndale looks to build on last year's success with second property showcase

Once wasn't enough for the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, so that's why its bringing back last year's highly successful Commercial Property Showcase on Sept. 5.

The showcase is a self-guided tour of up to 25 available commercial properties and existing businesses in the city for developers and entrepreneurs interested in setting up shop in Ferndale. Last year's showcase led to six signed leases, a couple of land sales and few more pending leases and sales.

"We got so many people to come through," says Maile Ilac Boeder, executive director of the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce. She adds that both local business people and those from Chicago and New York made the trip.

The idea is based on the home tour concept that real estate agents use. However, city officials use the showcase as a chance to show prospective business owners what space is available and what it can become. The featured properties include retail, office, industrial, mixed-use and brownfield redevelopment spaces.

"It's also a chance to mix and mingle with the people who have done this before in Ferndale and the people you would be doing business with in the city," Boeder says.

The chamber is looking for participants and sponsors. For information, (248) 542-2160.
