Next week's Ferndale Property Showcase focuses on variety

Ferndale doesn't plan to show off its best during its Property Showcase on Tuesday. It plans to show what it hopes will become its best. And it promises a heckuva wide variety.

The 2nd annual showcase is a self-guided tour of up to 20 available commercial properties, ranging from office space to light industrial to downtown retail. The idea is to give prospective developers and entrepreneurs an idea of what is possible when it comes to doing business in Ferndale.

"We have everything from 120-square-foot offices to over 40,000-square-foot spaces," says Maile Ilac Boeder, executive director of the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce which is hosting the event. "We have an awful lot of variety."

Last year's showcase led to six signed leases, a couple of land sales and few more pending leases and sales. Business people, both local and from as far away as Chicago and New York, participated. This time around more than 100 people have rsvp'ed for the event.

Ferndale's Chamber made it a self-guided tour to conserve the time of those attending, allowing them to skip properties they aren’t interested in. After the tour they are invited to mingle with city officials and local business owners at a cocktail party at The Emory in downtown from 4-6 p.m.

Last year existing businesses where also featured, but they are not included this year to make the tour cleaner and less complicated.
