Southeast Oakland County Recycling deadlines approaching

The deadline for Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority’s free yard waste collection and recycling workshop are fast approaching.

SOCRRA, which handles the recycling for a dozen Oakland County communities, will allow residents of member communities to drop off yard waste for free at its Troy Transfer Station until April 7. It is located on 991 Coolidge between 14 and 15 mile roads across the street from Meijer.

Yard waste, such as grass clippings, leaves and brush, will be composted. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Curbside collection of yard waste should begin again the week of April 9th.

SOCRRA will also hold a free recycling workshop at 6 p.m. April 17 in the Royal Oak Senior Center, 3500 Marais St. The workshop will teach what can be recycled in the each resident’s curbside recycling bin, why they need to be recycled and how it’s done.

The workshop is open to residents in the following SOCRRA communities: Berkley, Beverly Hills, Birmingham, Clawson, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak and Troy.
