The Town Square development in downtown Northville is about half done and expected to be finished by the end of September in time for the city’s annual Victorian Festival.
Construction workers have finished most of the work on street and sidewalk in front of the park on Main Street between Center and Hutton streets. They are also working on the fountain and putting down brick pavers for it. Most of the work will be done in time for the festival's Sept. 14 start and a ribbon cutting ceremony is set for October 21.
The Town Square project will expand an existing downtown plaza to 28,600 square feet. It is effectively doubling the public space by replacing an adjacent parking lot. There will be a band shell, trees and increased green space.
The $1.7-million project is being paid for with funds from the Northville Downtown Development Authority. Northville-based Grissim, Mets, Andriese Associates have done the architectural work and Farmington Hills-based McCarthy & Smith Inc will handle the construction work.
