The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce is promoting the is promoting the self-guided tour of 20 to 25 available commercial properties and existing businesses. The idea is to show prospective business owners what space is available and what it can become. The featured properties include retail, office, industrial, mixed-use and brownfield redevelopment spaces.
"We really do embody the entrepreneurial spirit here," Maile Ilac Boeder, executive director of the Ferndale Chamber. "We have a spot here for everyone."
The idea came about when a few chamber members began discussing local home tours, a common tactic used by real-estate agents to pump up sales. Why not do the same thing for commercial properties throughout the city to strengthen its business climate?
Among the businesses being used as examples of what can be done is Paramount Bank's Ferndale branch, an eclectic combination of art gallery and bank branch, and Snap Fitness, a gym that carved its home out of an old car-parts store.
The chamber is still looking for participants and sponsors. For information, (248) 542-2160.
