Rover and Spot will get a chance to run freely in Ann Arbor now that the City Council has approved areas in several local parks as dog friendly.
The city is setting up leash-free areas for dogs, aka dog parks, in Swift Run, Southeast Area, Olson and Leslie parks. Each park will have a specific area where dogs will be allowed to run freely with each other on their leases.
To do this though, dog owners must obtain a permit, showing their pooches are up to date on shots and licensed. The fees will be lower if the owner can show that the dog is spayed or neutered. The fees range from $50 for the first dog, $35 if neutered or spayed, and $25 for each additional dog, $15 if neutered or spayed.
Dogs are permitted in city parks and public areas, but they must be leased and controlled by their owner.
