December things to do: Tours, shopping, ballet, parades and a lot of lights

Buckle up, people. The holidays are upon us. Whether you love or despise “the most wonderful time of the year,” it’s here. Several communities are hosting holiday parades, and Santa is everywhere. There’s also a live nativity, a singing Christmas tree, a train show, holiday-centric shopping events, ballet programs, concerts, comedy, and caroling.

There’s even a library event to help teens wrap gifts. Less holiday-related events include hockey games, movie matinees, outdoor activities, free CPR training, and a discussion about Yooper Talk (yes, you read that right).

Now, about those lights. Here’s a rundown so far: There’s the Spring Lake Sparkle, Coopersville and Holland each will host a parade of lights, Magic at the Mill, tree lightings galore, a nighttime stroll on illuminated park paths, and a drive-through light show, Oh, and don’t forget the several New Year’s Eve events.

December offers a wide variety of things to do in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties. This list includes options for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.
