Employee-owned transportation firm expands Allegan County operation

Classic Transportation & Warehousing, an employee-owned customs bonded warehousing and transportation firm in Allegan County, is investing more than $8.4 million in expanding its operations in Leighton Township.

Lakeshore Advantage, the economic development organization that assists employers with growth opportunities in Ottawa and Allegan counties, connected the company with local resources to support this project.

“It’s great to kick off 2022 with another expansion in our community,” says Jennifer Owens, Lakeshore Advantage president. “As an extended member of their team, we are pleased to connect Classic Transportation with local resources to support their expansion.”

Classic Transportation & Warehousing plans expansion of Leighton Township facility.

Classic Transportation & Warehousing is constructing a new 172,000-square-foot warehouse and third-party logistics facility that will be available for use later this year. This project is expected to retain four existing jobs and create six to 12 new jobs.

“Classic Transportation & Warehousing’s talented team of employee-owners are committed to serving the growing needs of our partners,” says Rod Cooper, Classic Transportation & Warehousing president and CEO. “We are grateful to have the support of Leighton Township and Lakeshore Advantage as we continue to expand in the dynamic West Michigan communities we call home. With the addition of this 172,000-square-foot facility, along with our transportation services on site, we will set the course for a new era of innovative storage and logistics solutions that meet and exceed the diverse needs of our customers.”

Leighton Township is supporting this project with a 12-year Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption that was approved last night.
