City launches first Holland Ambassador Academy

What’s happening: The city of Holland is launching its first Holland Ambassador Academy for residents, a 10-week course aimed at providing insights into the operations of various city departments. The classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6-9 p.m., starting Sept. 9 and concluding Nov. 11.

Why it’s important: The Holland Ambassador Academy will offer city residents an opportunity to learn about the in-depth functions of local government. Participants will hear presentations by city officials, department directors, and staff members, tour city facilities with hands-on learning experiences, and gain an understanding of how they can contribute to keeping Holland a desirable place to live, work, and play.

What they are saying: “Holland is a well-run city with great leadership, dedicated volunteers serving on our boards and commissions, and hardworking and talented employees,” Mayor Nathan Bocks says.

“We want to share a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of Holland, providing our residents the opportunity to become ambassadors of their city in word and deed, and empowering the next generation of leaders and volunteers to step up and serve their community.”

How it works: The academy is open to city of Holland residents, and there is no fee to participate. Space is limited, so early applications are encouraged. Consideration will be given to non-residents if space permits.

Classes will be held at various city departments in Holland, with the final session culminating in a graduation ceremony and reception for participants and their families.
