Second Look: Award-winning photographer snaps for Second Wave

And now for a moment of shameless self-promotion. We're mighty proud that Second Wave photographer Erik Holladay recently got statewide recognition for his news and sports photography in other publications.

As we travel through the community it is not uncommon to hear a comment like: “Second Wave? Oh, that’s the website that has the cool pictures every week.”

The words are important, too. But, yes, excellent photography is something we strive for on a regular basis.

Our photographer, Erik Holladay, who is a freelancer, recently was recognized for photos he shot in the past year (for other publications). He took an Honorable Mention in Spot News category and an Honorable Mention in the Sports Action category at the 2012 Michigan Press Photographers Association annual state contest.

The contest includes all of the newspaper photographers in the state. He competed against those from major newspapers such as the Detroit Free Press and smaller local papers such as the Midland Daily News. There were 108 entrants who competed in 14 categories.

It was a good year for Erik who had his work published in the Washington Post, The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune in 2011.

You can see all of the winning images at the MPPA website.
