I worked as a reporter/editor for about a decade after college. I then worked as a corporate communications/marketing officer for a healthcare system in metro Detroit. I was responsible for employee communications, executive visibility opportunities, CEO/COO speech writing, etc.
Now, at the City of Ann Arbor, I provide communication, marketing and graphic design support for the Community Services Area. This includes Planning & Development, Community Development and Parks & Recreation. I create everything from marketing plans and press releases to brochures, posters and flyers promoting our programs and services.
In the past few months I've been excited to help debut several social media tools including Twitter for Parks & Recreation (www.twitter.com/a2parks) and Community Development (www.twitter.com/annarborcd) and a Facebook page for Parks & Recreation (www.facebook.com/annarbor.parks). These are fantastic tools to continue the conversations we have with customers, promote our activities, inform visitors/citizens about special events/news in real-time. I'm also excited to be using photo storytelling Web sites such as Whrrl.com and animoto.com for Parks & Recreation.
I've definitely been able to combine my experience as a journalist and photographer with skills in marketing, graphic design and internal communications to work on some really great projects. I launched the branding campaign for Parks & Recreation: "Life's more than a walk in a park." I'm always looking for new and different ways to promote Parks & Recreation in Ann Arbor and all of the wonderful ways we're able to enhance people's quality of life in the parks.
