Don't be fooled by the diminutive size, this is a mature Screech Owl and one of the many Birds of Prey at the Leslie Science and Nature Center on the northern edge of Ann Arbor.
All of the Birds of Prey at the Science and Nature Center have been injured in some way which makes it impossible to release them in the wild. But they've all been rehabilitated and you can walk up to many of them in their outdoor enclosures when they're not visiting schools or at special events.
Among the birds you can see up close at the Science and Nature Center are a Bald Eagle, American Kestrels, Horned Owls, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Turkey Vulture. But you might not believe the charming screech owl is real until it blinks at you.
