In a year that saw change in local government and redevelopment on many fronts in and around Williamston, several news and sports stories stood out as noteworthy in 2008.
Tri-State Medical Supply/Centurion broke ground in October for a new headquarters and administrative building in the Williamston Industrial Park. The facility will house an initial 150 employees, with plansto bring in an additional 75 employees. The groundbreaking was the biggest economic development event in a year when 10 new businesses opened in Williamston.
The long-vacant 109 E. Grand River Ave. building could be redeveloped into a retail and residential space. The city opened proposals for redeveloping space in August, and got a proposal from local builder/developer Steve Eyke in October. Plans are to seek Michigan Economic Development Corp. funds for a grant toward redeveloping the property under the MEDIC "Signature Building" program, while seeking business investors to take over the property.
