As students and late night festivities ramp up again, the City of East Lansing is examining ways to handle the rapidly increasing number of taxi cabs and companies operating in the city.
According to excerpts from the article:
"At what point do we have so many that we can't effectively handle them or manage them, particularly through our downtown at certain hours?" Mayor Victor Loomis asked.
The number of licensed taxicab companies has more than doubled in the last two years to 17. More than 100 cabs are licensed to drive in East Lansing, according to city records.
Lansing has 12 companies with a total of 67 cabs licensed to operate in the city, according to Clerk Chris Swope.
