Jackson National Life Insurance Co. is looking to build a $26.3 million data center in Lansing.

The insurer wants a backup storage site. It hopes to receive about $1.4 million in brownfield redevelopment funds for its proposed $26.3 million data center at 2005 Seager St.
Jackson also requested the city grant a personal property tax exemption worth about $4.1 million.
The proposed site is a 31,700- square-foot warehouse formerly occupied by Combined Van Lines Inc.
The Lansing City Council is expected to schedule a public hearing on the incentives for Sept. 21 and consider final approval Sept. 28, said Karl Dorshimer, vice president of the Lansing Economic Development Corp.
Mayor Virg Bernero said he looks forward to the reuse of the building that sat vacant for at least a year.
