Habitat for Humanity and the Ingham County Land Bank are
working together to help local residents afford new homes. The two
organizations recently helped ReChelle Kendrick and her two children move into
a brand new, three bedroom home.
According to excerpts from the article:
Kendrick and her family are in their new home thanks to
her persistence and some help from Habitat for Humanity and the Ingham County
Land Bank.
They're among a number of organizations working in mid-Michigan
to buck home-slump trends and get home buyers without huge incomes into local
neighborhoods.
"A focus whenever we can is homes for
families," said Eric Schertzing, Ingham County
treasurer and chairman of the Land Bank. Since August 2006, it has renovated 11
homes and built three others in Lansing, East Lansing and
Williamston.
It sold the lot for Kendrick's home at cost to Habitat
for Humanity.
"We want to see nice houses with children in
them," Schertzing said. "The public school system needs that. The
neighborhoods need that."
