Sparrow Health System ranks 22nd among top technology innovators in the country — placing above well-known competitors such as Hewlett-Packard, Lockheed Martin and Eli Lilly — in the
InformationWeek 500 list.
The recognized business technology magazine based the ranking on years of work by Sparrow staff, including hundreds of IT projects completed or in the works.
In recent years, Sparrow has fully automated its emergency care in the
Sparrow Tower, which opened in 2008, and made technology innovations to
improve Sparrow Laboratory Services, the 24th largest lab in the nation.
"We think this kind of recognition reflects the technological possibilities, and advancements already made, for the entire mid-Michigan region,” says Thomas A. Bres, Sparrow vice president and chief of information. “Sparrow is pleased to be a leader on the technological front in our area."
Sparrow is in the process of rolling out iSparrow, a system-wide effort to give physicians quicker electronic access to clinical records. They have also provided their first patients with access to their medical records via the Internet.
