Lansing-based Smart Office Systems (SOS) recently celebrated the acquisition of a $2 million contract with the State of Michigan.
SOS sells remanufactured furniture to companies all over the country. The state contract, which expires in 2013, allows SOS to help the state restructure how its office furniture is used.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Smart Office Systems, and we are truly honored the state awarded us this contract,” says the president of SOS, Paul Covert.
“Our refurbishment process uses local labor and environmentally friendly materials, which are improvements from previous programs used by the state, both in cost and environmental impact.”
SOS frequently acquires furniture from businesses that are going out of businesses and rehabs the furniture. Covert says SOS will be able to rehab lots of the state’s existing office furniture. Additional furniture will come from outside sources.
The contract is expected to save the state an average of $5.7 million a year.
SOS recently moved its headquarters to the 90,000 square foot site of the former American Sunroof Corporation (ASC), on Lansing's Westside.
