East Lansing-based
Publicom, a marketing and communications firm that specializes in service industries, has been entering their work in the
Healthcare Advertising Awards competition for four years. This year was undoubtedly their best.
After
taking home a personal-best seven awards from the 27th annual
competition, Publicom president Lisa O’Connor says being recognized on
a national scale is what sets her company apart from other service
industry-based marketing firms.
“There are a
lot of people out there doing this,” she says, referring to competition
across the U.S. “This shows we are able to work hand-in-hand with our
clients.”
O’Connor says the main purpose behind healthcare advertising is to educate the public on the myriad healthcare options.
“We try to communicate to people what solutions are out there so they can make better-informed decisions,” she says.
One
of the winning campaigns Publicom launched was for the
Ingham Regional Medical Center’s “Peripheral Arterial Disease Plus” newspaper and radio
advertisements. Judges fielded more than 4,000 entries and based their
decision on creativity, message effectiveness, graphic design and
overall impact.
Publicom started in 1979 in
Lansing and has grown to a 14-person, fully staffed in-house company.
It specializes in service industry marketing because it can be tough
for companies to develop a brand for non-physical products, O’Connor
says.
“We help put a face on their product and make their services more tangible,” she says.
