MSU Museum Receives $40,000 NEA Grant for Great Lakes Folk Festival

The Michigan State University Museum was awarded a $40,000 Access to Artistic Excellence grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for its award-winning Great Lakes Folk Festival.

NEA grants are highly competitive, but the MSU Museum has been able to garner funding from this grant since the Festival's inception in 2002.

The Festival “promotes a greater understanding and appreciation for the contributions of many cultures to the nation's development and our cultural heritage,” says Marsha MacDowell, GLFF artistic and founding director, who is also the MSU Museum's curator of folk arts.

"This grant reflects the high quality in programming and production we've been able to build and sustain at our event."

A few other arts organizations in the Capital region, such as the Old Town Business and Development Authority, have also received funding from NEA grants.
