Law Firm's $4,000 Gift To Impression 5 Will Support School Outreach Project

Thanks to a generous $4,000 contribution from the local law firm of Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith, Downtown Lansing's Impression 5 Science Center will continue to offer their Big Science Lesson, giving local students a chance to learn science outside of their classrooms.

The contribution will go towards scholarships for local schools. As part of the program, teachers and students use the science center as their classroom for five days.

“Instead of a two-hour field trip, students spend a whole week using exhibits and programs as part of their curriculum,” says Erik Larson, executive director of Impression 5.

The program ramps up again in September when school is back in session and will continue throughout the academic year. Larson says Impression 5 hopes to host 15 to 20 schools, which means between 500 and 1,000 Michigan students will be part of the program.

Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith is one of Michigan’s largest law firms and is also based in Downtown Lansing. Larson says their donation will make the program free for some schools—a tremendous gift during troublesome school budgets.

“A big thanks to Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith,” Larson says. “This will help us serve hundreds of children.”

The Big Science Lesson is available for any school in Michigan, though most who participate tend to be from the Capital region, says Larson.
