Got mad programming skills? If so, then
Gravity Works Design and Development has created an opportunity to show them off next week at its
First Annual Programming Contest.
On Dec. 17, programmers in the Capital region, from professionals to high school students, are encouraged to participate. The contest "is about community,” says Jeff McWherter, partner and director of development at Gravity Works. “Just getting a whole bunch of people together, learning a new technology and having a fun way to learn it was kind if what sparked the idea.”
The contest is being held at
Second Gear Coworking at 1134 N. Washington in Lansing.
“What we plan on doing is having everyone in a big room with desks and chairs, snacks and pizza.”
Gravity Works decided to post very little information about the contest to ensure no one was at any advantage in knowing something in advance. But McWherter did say the programmers will be creating an algorithm.
“There will be tournament-style brackets in the contest, where algorithms will go up against each other, and the winner of that match advances to the next round,” says McWherter.
At the very end, the last programmer standing wins a Microsoft Developer Network (DN) Subscription — which includes all the software Microsoft offers — valued at $11,000.
