Lansing Community College (LCC) is offering $15,000 in scholarships for energy-related studies at its West Campus M-TEC facility, thanks to a donation from the Grainger Foundation.
The donor’s parent, W.W. Grainger, Inc., is a multi-national corporation that supplies building maintenance products. The company operates in 150 countries with 18,000 employees. One of its service centers has been in the Lansing area 42 years, with offices at 5617 Enterprise Dr. in South Lansing.
The Grainger grant to LCC is a portion of the foundation’s $100,000 donation to the state M-TEC programs. The M-TEC programs, part of a joint effort between community colleges and the state, are designed to train workers in high-skill, high-wage and high-demand occupations, specifically tailored to meet the needs of local businesses.
LCC’s president, Brent Knight, is pleased.
“The Grainger Foundation’s generous gift is helping students around the state increase their technical skills and knowledge and obtain good-paying jobs,” he says. “On behalf of LCC students, faculty and staff, I want to thank Grainger for advancing technical training at LCC for workers in our community.”
The donation will be used to help fund students’ tuition, fees and expenses. Grainger representatives say they are looking for other ways to assist the students participating in the M-TEC program by offering job shadowing opportunities, professional development exercises and other means of volunteer support.
