Geeks for Good Helps Connect Non-Profits With Technology and Media Expertise

Geeks for Good is a unique Lansing-founded non-profit organization, created to assist other nonprofits with their technology, design and social media initiatives. Their mission is to help improve an organization's capacity by bolstering their social media marketing and design efforts.

Geeks for Good takes volunteers with marketing, design and social media experience and partners them with non-profits needing assistance in those areas of their organization. These volunteers then assist in a wide variety of projects, ranging from creating a newsletter template to offering advice on web design.

“Think of how much time your average college student spends on Facebook,” say Robyn Stegman, founder of Geeks for Good. “Wouldn’t it be great if we could get them to use that time to help update a non-profit’s Facebook page or set up a Twitter account?”

Essentially, Geeks for Good provides non-profits with a service, but it also offers resume-building experience for young people, and a chance for experienced professionals to use their skills for the greater good.

“Service helps us rediscover our community,” says Stegman, “The people who will rebuild Michigan are out there. We just have to find them, one geek at a time.”
