ADDY Awards Bring Out-of-State Judges, Highlight Local Talent

Judges from Portland, Oregon; Ft. Worth, Texas; and St. Louis, Mo. recently pored over 225 pieces of original advertising pieces submitted by the Mid-Michigan Creative Alliance, the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), and handed out ADDY awards.

They granted best-in-show awards to Michigan State University’s (MSU) College of Education for its annual report, Redhead Design Studio for its development of A Piece O’Cake’s website, and Pace & Partners for its TV production for the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.

The work of nine Capital region creatives will head to the AAF awards ceremony in Washington, D. C. in June.

“Every year I am surprised and reminded of how much good work is being done here,” says Camron Gnass, of Vision Creative, and a Creative Alliance board member.

CiesaDesign of Lansing’s Old Town took home the most golds with four, followed by three golds each for Image Creative of Mason, Redhead Design Studio of Old Town and Patten ID of Grand Ledge.

“A good idea isn’t what costs money. It’s how it will be executed based on how much the client is able to spend on production values,” Gnass says. “But the quality shown Feb. 28 just shows that clients would be crazy to spend their money outside of this community to get really good work.”

Vision Creative nabbed two gold ADDYs, one for a brochure prepared for the Capital Area IT Council. Tom Gennara snagged two golds for photography and Barbara Hranilovich got one for her Dapper Dog illustrations.
