The local fiber optic Internet service provider
Arialink has announced $52,000 in donations to Lansing’s
Impression 5 Science Center, creating a relationship between the two organizations that will bring some exciting innovations to
Downtown Lansing.
As science and technology are natural friends, the new partnership should come as no surprise.
The first of the two-part donation is an in-kind gift of installation and five years of high-speed fiber Internet service to I5, which amounts to $3,200 in technology services. The infrastructure will create a direct fiber connection to Ingham and Eaton school districts, as well as
Lansing Community College (LCC) and certain regional LCC satellites.
The connection will allow the center to exchange high quality, data-rich content with the learning institutions.
"The difference for Impression 5 will be like the difference between drinking through a straw and having a fire hose," says Arialink spokesperson Amber Shinn.
Arialink’s second donation to I5 will be in form of $20,000 to create a new exhibit exploring the roles of light and color in technology. Arialink will work with the science center to develop the exhibit.
"We’re super-pumped to sit down and talk about the exhibit," says Shinn. "We’ve just set our first meeting. We’ve kicked around some ideas, and there are going to be some cool surprises."
The exhibit is expected to undergo construction and open in late 2011.
