After sitting vacant for several years, the iconic Temple Club in Lansing’s Old Town will be occupied once again.
Old Town Developer Alan Hooper, owner of Triterra, and a business partner purchased the 14,500 square foot building and are now working on a design plan for its future use.
“We’re kind of doing our due diligence and talking to a number of different potential tenants about being in the space,” Hooper says. “We’re probably two months away 
from actually doing any construction or getting started with it.”
Before Hooper can create a design, he needs to check out some logistical issues, such as heating and cooling upgrades and the possibility of putting an elevator in the three-story building. The third floor is an open mezzanine level. Hooper says about 13,000 square feet of the 14,500 square foot building will be rentable.
“It will definitely be a commercial building, but we’re not really limiting ourselves in terms of use of the building,” Hooper says. “We expect that office users will be the first to step forward.”
The Temple Club is located right next to the recently renovated Cedar Street School in Old Town.
The renovation of both buildings will improve the aesthetic of the area as well as drive economic growth to the area, Hooper says.
“This will bring jobs and people down to the area every day and will hopefully support the restaurants and shops in the area,” Hooper says. “I hope it adds to the critical mass for people living, working and playing down here.”
