GreenStone Farm Credit Services, an agricultural lender in Michigan and Wisconsin, recently broke ground on its new East Lansing corporate headquarters.
GreenStone’s headquarters have been in East Lansing since 2000, but the new 78,000 square foot headquarters will double the company’s current space. GreenStone currently operates out of two buildings totaling 30,000 square feet.
“When the time came for us to look at this project, I believe that the board and management felt that this location had worked really well for us as a corporate headquarters and there wasn’t really any reason for us to look elsewhere,” says GreenStone Marketing Vice President Jim Nowak.
The new building is a quarter of a mile up the road from the existing headquarters and will have a new 3515 West Road address.
“We’ve had rather strong growth throughout this decade,” Nowak says, attributing the company’s growth to the acquisition of the Wisconsin market and strong agricultural production amongst its members. “When our customers, which are mainly people involved in agriculture, are doing well, we do well.”
GreenStone plans to hire approximately 65 new employees by 2013.
“I can’t say for certain how many or what types of positions would be hired, but generally speaking, our five year start plan estimates hiring 65 employees,” he says.
The building is slated for a fall 2010 completion. Wieland-Davco is managing the project.
