Brandyn Armstrong, graphic designer and owner of B-Unique Designz, is celebrating his expansion to a 2,000 square foot space in Lansing.
“I really haven’t felt the impact of the so-called recession,” he says. “My business has been growing for the last four years. Last year, we had a 50 percent increase in customer base. I think our revenue was probably up by 20 percent.”
B-Unique Designz moved from 3010 W. St. Joseph and is now located at 2937 S. Martin Luther King in Lansing.
Armstrong started his business out of his house. Now he has office space and a designated area for screen-printing. City Limits Car Club shares the building with Armstrong.
“I primarily deal with a lot of small business, and that’s probably one of the reasons I continue to grow,” Armstrong says. “A lot of people are going out on their own, and they need logos, t-shirts and flyers.”
Armstrong has also brought interns into his business, emphasizing the need for regional mentorship.
“When I started doing this, there wasn’t anyone there to teach me,” Armstrong says. “Now I’m trying to reach back and give these kids some guidance.”
Armstrong also takes classes at Lansing Community College (LCC) and heads up Hood Illustrated, a magazine that reviews local and national hip-hop acts.
The grand opening for B-Unique Designz new location is set for Oct. 24.
