$4 Million Green Printers Row Condos Nearly All Sold in Downtown Lansing

The $4 million urban condos known as Printers Row in Lansing are finished and nearly full, with 16 of the 17 condos already sold.

Developer Gene Townsend looked to successful urban development models that focused on walkability, complexity and economic diversity as inspiration for his design.

Mixed use properties, aesthetically appealing homes, and what Townsend labeled as "heart" tend to draw people to new city developments.

Condo developments with heart, says Townsend, are those that have "a story their owners can sort of latch onto."

The heart of Printers Row is the 1854 John Kerr house that sits in the middle of the development. The Kerr house is the oldest house in Lansing.

The condos, finished in July of 2006, are the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified condos in Lansing. A LEED designation entails certification by the U.S. Green Building Alliance that the the property is green, i.e., designed to reduce the impact on the environment.

Printers Row is located at 209 E. St. Josephs in Downtown Lansing.
