$2M Delta Township project to bring Culver's restaurant and 75 jobs

Pete and Katy Spohn have owned their Culver's Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, for five years. When they decided to branch out and open a second location, they looked immediately to their neighbor city to the south.

"Lansing fit the bill," says Pete Spohn. "There is pretty steady employment here with the Capitol, and you have 45,000 students at MSU."

The Spohns will soon begin construction on a new 4,500 square foot Culver's Restaurant on West Saginaw in Delta Township. They expect to hire 75 employees at the location by the time it opens in the fall. They plan to invest approximately $2 million in the project.

Culvers originated in Wisconsin 27 years ago and has more than 400 locations in 31 states.

"We lived in Madison, Wisconsin, and we used to go over to Culver's to eat," Spohn says. "We loved the concept, the cleanliness and the food. When we finally decided we wanted to be in business for ourselves, Culver's really shined through."

The franchise is best known for its frozen custard. Spohn says all the food at the new Culver's will be fresh, never frozen and cooked to order.

Work on the project is schedule to begin within a month.
