Cooley Law School is renovating the 60,000 square foot Town Center building in Downtown Lansing to increase the size of its library.
The first floor of the two-story building will be completely renovated while the second story is undergoing partial renovations. When finished, the first floor, which is about 30,000 square feet, will include additional stack space, study space, a student lounge and administrative offices.
“Then they can expand to the second floor as they need to,” says Matt McGaughey, senior associate with the Mayotte Group Architects and project manager for the Cooley library renovation.
The expansion will be connected to the existing Cooley library, allowing students to move from one building to the other without going outside.
“As a part of this project, we’ve torn down the north third of the building and we’re building a north exterior wall and creating new green space and an access drive off of Capital Avenue to connect to the existing Cooley parking lot,” he says.
The Town Center building formerly housed State of Michigan offices.
McGaughey anticipates first floor renovations and the connecting portion to be complete by December.
