MSU Plans Move to Renovated 4,000 Square Foot Eastside Lansing Location

Michigan State University (MSU) is staking its claims in Lansing’s Eastside neighborhood by agreeing to move its Center for Community and Economic Development off campus and into a 4,000 square foot building on Michigan Avenue. The building is being upgraded by developer Scott Gillespie.

The Center will move into the 1615 Michigan Avenue address once Gillespie finishes remodeling the interior of the former Lett’s Bridal building. The move is tentatively set for July 2008.

"They’re moving to improve their location and their visibility,” says Gillespie about the Center’s move to the Eastside.

The Center’s John Melcher, says the Center also wants an off-campus, central location that is more visible to the public. Melcher is excited at the prospect of the building being a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified development.

The second half of the building, 1609 Michigan Avenue, contains the Al Quid Middle Eastern Market. Gillespie is doing exterior work on both addresse,s including façade improvements.
