MCAAA invests in 6,181-sq ft building as staff more than doubles

The Michigan Community Action Agency Association has been meeting the needs of human agencies for decades, and now they have their very own property in Okemos to keep the action going.

“We had been leasing a much smaller space on the west side of town,” says MCAAA executive director James Crisp. “Due to the growth in our staffing and our business, we needed to make a move.”

They made the move to the 6,181 square foot building at 2173 Commons Parkway in Okemos where the organization had a little more elbowroom than their former 2,000 square foot facility.

“Three years ago there were four and a half staff and myself in our office,” says Crisp. “Currently we have 15 in the building.”

Crisp credits the dramatic growth of his office to the increase in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as well as energy optimization programs in Michigan.

The MCAAA is an umbrella association for community action agencies in Michigan. The organization services up to 30 agencies that administer such programs as headstart and food banks.

“This move has enabled us to do all the work that has come to us in the last couple of years,” says Crisp. “We hope we’ll be able to continue to operate and help the most vulnerable populations in the state.”
