A decade ago,
BlueGrass Lawn & Landscape Services began as a small-scale lawn maintenance operation in Mason. Today, the business has grown to support five full-time and six seasonal employees, comprehensive landscaping services and a brand-new retail showroom featuring 6,000 square feet of waterfalls, hot tubs and outdoor kitchen displays.
“Good customers and good service,” says BlueGrass Lawn & Landscape co-owner Doug Byers of the secret to the company’s dramatic expansion. “It all sort of snowballed from there.”
Prior to April, BlueGrass has grown into a
Mason office and shops in Leslie and Onondaga. In November of 2010 Byers and his partners Neil Sheridan and Shawn Zendler purchased a 6-acre property on Hull Road in Mason including a 56,000 square foot building with the goal of consolidating their locations.
April 1 marked the new facility’s grand opening after months of renovations.
“Our goals are to increase our exposure, letting people know that we do retail now, so people can stop by the pick up their own material,” says Byers. “And also we wan to continue to grow and provide a career for some of our guys.
“We have a lot of goals and a lot of space to work with.”
In addition to the waterfalls and hot tubs on display in the new showroom, BlueGrass’s new retail offerings include mulch and other landscaping materials in bulk for customers with do-it-yourself projects.
