Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital’s AL!VE
Health Park in Charlotte is clipping along, thanks in part to a mild fall and steady work from the project troupe of contractors — more then 90% of whom are Michigan-based businesses.
"When we talk about the health at the hospital, we aren’t just about physical health," says Patrick Sustrich, MS, director of health and wellness services at HGB. "We’re talking about regional heath, economic health. AL!VE has already helped the health of Michigan by providing more than 200 construction jobs."
With much of the exterior work of the project’s Phase I completed before the snow began to fall, many of those jobs will continue throughout the winter, and interior construction is now underway.
The future AL!VE Health Park will total 80,000 s
quare feet once both phases are completed. This includes the existing buildings being renovated now as well as an extra 15,000 square feet in new construction.
A portion of the new construction is included in Phase I, which is scheduled for completion by Fall 2011.
According to Sustrich, Phase I of AL!VE will bring with it the following features: Journey, a women’s health center; Empower, the physical, occupational therapy room; Soar, an activity Gym; the Nourish Café; Relish, the demonstration kitchen; a portion of Explore, an indoor walking trail; Ponder, an outdoor courtyard; and Bridge, a transitional workout area for patients leaving physical therapy and transitioning to independent workouts.
"Alive is so much more than the traditional physical therapy and women’s health center," Sustrich says. "It’s truly a community project where the whole community can come together. You won’t need a membership card to come in the door."
In addition to the 200 construction jobs the project is currently creating, HGB expects the center to create between 25-30 jobs once both Phase I and II are completed.
The total project is expected to result in $15 million in investment.
