City of Marquette, Superior Watershed Partnership get grant for home energy efficiency

A grant totaling $315,000 was awarded to the City of Marquette and the Superior Watershed Partnership to help coordinate residential energy conservation programs.

The grant was provided by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth. In addition, the program also includes up to $740,000 in additional contractual funding for energy assessments, technical assistance and weatherization installations.

The grant will include, but not be limited to education, marketing, and outreach, as it relates to residential retrofit programs for energy efficiency.

"This is yet another positive example of the power of partnerships," says Marquette mayor John Kivela. "We've enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Superior Watershed Partnership, and our citizens are the primary beneficiaries of this cooperative arrangement."

The project is scheduled to begin this month with the completion slated for June 2013.
