Summer is coming, and the
Up North Lodge in Gwinn is getting ready with a bunch of new hires.
The restaurant is a local favorite all year round, but summer gives the Lodge a very full dance card, as it adds summer residents, visitors and bikers to its guest list.
For the expected busy season, the restaurant recently hired three part-time hosts, three part-time bus staff, a cleaner, a prep cook and a line cook, according to the lodge's managing partner, Cheryl Wootton.
The lodge is gearing up for summer in other ways, too. The events schedule is already packed full, and includes their annual Tuesday Night Bike Nights, which benefit local agencies and organizations each week. Those will kick off June 5 with a blessing of the bikes sponsored by Bald Eagle Harley-Davidson, to benefit the YMCA and Livestrong campaign. Tuesday Night Bike Nights run through early August.
Other beneficiaries include Forsyth Township EMS and Fire Department, the U.P. Children's Museum, Special Olympics, U.P Down Syndrome Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Red Cross, UPAWS, Alzheimer's Association and the MGH pediatrics unit.
"This is our fifth year doing our Tuesday Night Bike Night, and we've raised over $33,000 over the last four years for agencies like these," says Wootton. "Last year alone we raised $11,265 and are hoping to exceed that again this year."
An outdoor band stage featuring live local bands on selected Saturdays, and Thursday Night Classic Cruisin' Night, once a month, are two more draws to the Up North Lodge this summer.
There are still at least two positions open for those looking for a Gwinn-area summer job; they include kitchen expediter (expo) and line cook. Applicants can stop by the Up North Lodge and pick up an application, says Wootton.
