Health clinic named after Manistique native

Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital recently honored a Manistique native with the dedication of its health clinic.

The hospital unveiled the Alan W. Ott Rural health Clinic last week in a ceremony that found Ott and his family, friends and hospital and government officials on hand.

The facility was named after Ott thanks to a $500,000 contribution to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital's capital campaign by the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation of Midland, Mich. In exchange, they were given naming rights for the clinic, which they chose to name after Ott.

Ott, who was born in Manistique in 1931, has had a lifetime banking experience, ranging from beginning his career as a part-time bookkeeper at a local Manistique bank to eventually becoming the CEO of Chemical Bank of Midland in 1972. He has also been the chairman of Chemical Bank and Chemical Financial Corp.
