Among the Stars of the Year awards handed out for 2013 by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association was one that came home to the Upper Peninsula.
Linda Hoath, executive director of the
Sault Ste. Marie Conventions and Visitors Bureau, was awarded the 2013 CVB Star of the Year.
The achievements that were honored by the award were her 10 years of work at the CVB, including working to increase investment in the Pure Michigan campaign, creating collaborations in the eastern U.P., and rising visitor counts to Sault Ste. Marie.
For instance, more than 10,000 people visited the Sault during Soo Locks Engineer's Day in 2012, versus 5,000 in 2011.
The Star of the Year CVB award, which was presented to Hoath in Detroit, goes to a director, office manager or staff member who shows commitment to marketing effectiveness and models stellar promotion of their destination and the state of Michigan.
Other Star of the Year awards went to individuals and tourism organizations in Acme, Bellaire, Birmingham, Dearborn, Detroit, East Lansing, Gaylord, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Traverse City.
