Pioneer Surgical hosts Michigan governor and Upper Peninsula business leaders

It’s been an exciting week for Pioneer Surgical Technology of Marquette; it’s announced the first surgical use of one of its spine products in Europe, and also had a visit from Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

First, the news from Europe: Pioneer’s nanOss cervical cage, for use in the cervical spine and for the treatment of cervical disc disease, was successfully used in surgeries at U.K. hospitals. It’s the first time Pioneer’s biologics products have expanded into Europe.

“We are very pleased to expand our interbody product offerings into Europe with nanOss Cervical and to utilize the alliance with our sales, technical, and support team in Europe. This novel product is the first of its kind composed of hydroxyapatite to provide strength as a cervical spacer. We look forward to expanded sales of nanOss Cervical throughout key markets within and outside Europe,” says Shane Ray, general manger for biologics at Pioneer.

Then, on August 17, Pioneer’s headquarters in Marquette was host to a business roundtable of area business leaders, who gathered to talk with Gov. Rick Snyder and his business development staff. Michael Finney of the Michigan Economic Development Council also attended.

Small and mid-sized companies in the U.P. were invited to discuss challenges like hiring qualified employees and navigating regulatory situations.  Some of the industries represented were medical, mining, automotive, energy, tourism and real estate.
